What Happened in Nashville Won’t Stay in Nashville

Last week in Nashville, something special happened. 

Home care leaders from around the country gathered for a 3-day Breakaway365 Immersive—not just to learn, but to transform. To slow down and step out of the day-to-day grind. To reimagine what’s possible for their businesses, their teams, and their lives. 

Here’s a peek inside what made this Immersive so powerful—and why it might be the exact shift you’re looking for next. 

Day 1: Rewiring How We Think, So We Can Lead Differently 

We opened with the foundation of the Breakaway365 Framework—THINK. 

Too many home care entrepreneurs are stuck in "Red Ocean" thinking—competing on price, burning out, and feeling constantly “on.” We reframed that narrative and taught leaders how to think differently with tools like the Setback Reframe, Guiding Truths, and the Core4 Alignment for Founders. 

One big takeaway: “You will never grow your business beyond your thinking.” Growth is more about the way we THINK and the purpose behind our actions.  

We explored unconscious motivators with Heather Marcum (my incredible and beautiful wife), who introduced the PRINT® assessment. Leaders uncovered the hidden “whys” behind their decisions, triggers, and behaviors—creating space for compassion, clarity, and better communication in their teams. Heather’s PRINT presentations are always one of the greatest highlights of our Immersives.  

Day 2: Building Cultures That KEEP, Not Burn Out 

Our focus moved from inner mindset to external impact: building KEEPing Cultures. 

Through the KEEPing Culture Model, we tackled the No. 1 pain point in home care: early caregiver turnover. Leaders learned how to radically shift the first 90 days of employment using tools like: 

• The KEEP Culture 90 Playbook 

• Position Agreements 

• The KEEP Review & Reframe Tool, designed to make 1 on 1’s far more productive and purposeful 

And we went beyond science and theory—we began building real 90-day strategies using the Breakaway Blueprint Accelerator, a tool designed to achieve bigger goals by exploring what you need to drop, decrease, elevate, and create in order to Breakaway.  

One of my favorite group moments? Watching the light bulbs go off when we talked about the science behind building greater autonomy, and how to do it, among themselves and their teams.  

Day 3: Momentum, Blue Oceans, and Trusted Advisors 

Day 3 was all about keeping the fire lit. 

I worked with our veteran members to build out their Blue Ocean Strategy Canvases—identifying service offerings and models in home care that are truly different and deeply defensible, exploring ways to protect their unique differentiators via IP.  

Meanwhile, our newest members met with Sarah Barker, founder of Senior Care Sales Solutions, to dive into one of the most overlooked growth strategies in home care: working with trusted advisors. 

Sarah unpacked how to create aligned, strategic referral partnerships with estate attorneys, fiduciaries, financial planners, and more—showing how the right relationships can drive exponential growth without burning more marketing dollars. 

Later that afternoon, Vicki Demirozu, one of our Breakaway Coaches, helped our new members set expectations for what comes next. She shared how coaching within Breakaway365 isn’t about quick fixes—it’s about developing the grit, vulnerability, focus, and accountability to drive consistent transformation in both business and life. Her session reminded us all: “You weren’t meant to do this alone.” Breakaways are only possible with a team.  

We wrapped up with a second workshop from Heather Marcum, this time focused on the Kolbe A™ Index. Her guidance helped members understand how their instinctive “conative” strengths influence how they lead, problem-solve, and build their teams. There were more than a few “aha” moments when members realized they were working against their instincts—and how small shifts could conserve energy and increase productivity.
